This new release contains a stunning collection of English works performed by Australia’s magnetic soprano Miriam Allan and premiere period chamber ensemble, Ironwood. Based in the UK since 2003 Miriam Allan has performed with Monteverdi Choir and the English Baroque Soloists, London Baroque and Les Arts Florissants. Miriam has appeared with Il Fondamento, Gewandhaus Chamber Choir, Leipzig Chamber Orchestra, Concerto Köln and has worked with many fine directors and conductors, including John Eliot Gardiner, Lars Ulrik Mortensen, Laurence Cummings, William Christie and Roy Goodman. Miriam Allan appears on numerous recordings, highlights including The Fairy Queen and Dardanus with Pinchgut Opera (also on ABC Classics).

Miriam Allan made her Glyndebourne Festival Opera debut in 2009 in the highly acclaimed production of Purcell’s The Fairy Queen, and has continued with that production with performances in Paris, Caen and New York. In late 2011 Miriam Allan was soloist in a series of concerts of madrigals by Monteverdi with Les Arts Florissants including sold out concerts at the Union Chapel (London) and Cité de la musique (Paris)

Ironwood, formed in 2006, is an innovative Australian ensemble, committed to exploring historically informed performance of repertoire from the Baroque, Classical and Romantic eras on period instruments. Formed in 2006, Ironwood brings together some of Australia’s leading chamber musicians, drawing on a wealth of experience from around the world. In March 2012 Ironwood presented 19th-century performance research in New York at the American Brahms Society Conference and the Eastman School of Music.

“Allan’s voice is light, eminently suited to the chamber format, with a clear and ringing higher register but with an emotional depth and warmth that reaches across to the audience. Her presence on stage is magnetic.” - Australian Stage, 2009
