The Tetraktys, according to the Pythagoreans, was a symbol of Harmony in the Cosmos; the Tetraktys String Quartet was formed with this thought in mind. The quartet was formed in 2008 and has met with resounding acclaim. The Greek newspapers have described these four young men as “The new up-and-coming quartet”. Other reviews mention their “unique style” and their “bright and compact sound”. Each member of the quartet trained at world class institutions and has performed with various orchestras and world class conductors. Giorgos Panagiotidis is the Assistant Concertmaster of Kamerata, the Chamber Orchestra of Athens, and Ali Basegmezler is the Principal viola player. Kostas Panagiotidis is a member of the State Radio Orchestra, and Dimitris Travlos is a cellist in the State Orchestra of Athens. They are all members of the Ergon ensemble, and Giorgos Panagiotidis and Dimitris Travlos are part time guest players with the Ensemble Modern. In December 2008 they made their debut concert at the Cultural centre of Dionysus in Athens. In 2009 they had a series of concerts at the Goethe Institute in Athens. The following concerts at the Parnassus Hall in Athens, with Dionysus Gramenos, attracted a full house. In December 2009 they performed at Megaron, the Athens Concert Hall with Jeremy Irons, as he recited A Christmas Carol. The Quartet’s repertoire is diverse and exciting. They try to combine the Classical period with the Contemporary – they have played Ligeti and Mozart in the same concert, Skalkottas with Haydn and Webern with Beethoven.
