With ARMARIUM, amarcord opens a treasure trove of St Thomas singing tradition. Works from the Middle Ages to Heinrich Schütz bring four centuries of Leipzig history and music tradition to life. What had long lain dormant in various archives will now be performed for the first time in this new amarcord recording. Sacred hymns by master composers Orlando di Lasso, Johann Walter, Johann Hermann Schein, Sethus Calvisius and Heinrich Schütz, and Gregorian chant from the St Thomas Gradual – one of the most important surviving collections of medieval choral manuscripts – all left their mark on the repertoire of the St Thomas Choir during the first centuries of its existence.

The two-time ECHO Klassik Award winners, amarcord impressively demonstrate the perfection of these brilliant vocal settings. After the recordings of two masses from the St Thomas Gradual (“Zu S. Thomas” – Early Music prize winner at the 2013 ICMA), the Bach Motets, and “Restless Love – A Stroll through Romantic Leipzig”, the five former members of the St Thomas Boys Choir are once again paying tribute to Leipzig as a centre of music. Acclaimed throughout Germany and the world by audiences and critics alike, amarcord is one of Leipzig's foremost music ensembles.
