Diana’s vision for this project was to record the Bach concertos with single line strings, one to a part, recorded on modern instruments with gut strings and Baroque bows. Single strings allows these sublime works an enhanced sense of dialogue and collaboration. Diana studied in Zürich with Thomas Indermuhle and as a soloist has performed regularly at various international festivals: the Prague Spring Festival; the MusicaRiva festival in Italy; Bratislava Music Festival and the Spoleto Festival.

From 1990 to 1997, Diana was Principal Oboe in the Symphony Orchestra of Lucerne, and in 1997 returned to Australia joining the Sydney Symphony as Principal Oboe, a position she still holds. Diana premiered Ross Edwards’ oboe concerto in 2002 under Lorin Maazel and has gone onto perform the concerto with Maazel and the New York Philharmonic.

Diana is currently on tour with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and as the West Australian notes ‘ ... she [Doherty] brought a breathtaking veracity to this exquisitely detailed evocation of the English countryside [Vaughan Williams Oboe Concerto]. It was an interpretation which would surely have melted the heart of the most curmudgeonly of listeners. It was a reading to which the ACO responded with an answering depth of feeling. Bravissimo!’

This release features a bonus DVD, interspersed with footage of the recording sessions and an interview with Diana Doherty in which she talks about the music and her experience of playing and recording it.

Ironwood is a historically informed chamber group which crosses boundaries old and new. Ironwood perform at an elite level, exploring the sound of chamber music on gut strings. This recording includes violinist Rachael Beesley who is a Master of Music from The Royal Conservatoire in The Hague. Rachael has appeared regularly as concertmaster of La Petite Bande, Il Complesso Barocco, as well as performing Les Arts Florissants and Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and English cellist Daniel Yeadon trained at the RCM in London becoming principal cellist of period instrument ensemble Florilegium, recording 12 CDs for the Dutch company Channel Classics. Australia is now home but he continues to perform with many of the European-based period instrument ensembles including the English Baroque Soloists, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and The King’s Consort.
