The three violin sonatas hold a particular status in the full work of Edvard Grieg. They are to be ranked as master works and their style can be described as falling into line with the classical form, and enriched with elements originating in Norwegian folklore and patriotic feeling. The third violin sonata, doubtlessly one of Grieg’s greatest compositions, is now a landmark oeuvre in the violin repertoire. Born in 1997, Maya Levy participated in numerous international competitions and won several prizes: FLAME competition in Paris (2nd Prize); Concours Grumiaux (1st Prize); Stockholm Music Competition (1st Prize); Belfius Classics Competition (1st Prize); Oistrakh International Violin Competition in Moscou (semi-finalist)… Both the public and press have witnessed and rightfully appreciated the depth of her musical sensitivity, the justified assertiveness of her faultless technique and her stage presence, charismatic and captivating, that characterizes her. Maya Levy’s instrument is a 1851 Cerruti. Maya Levy has been forming a duo with pianist Matthieu Idmtal since 2013. Their performances are descibed as pure magic. They are Supernova laureate 2017 (nominated by the Belgian Festivals and Classical Radios).
