A temporality created by the clear tran-sition from one highly defined and re-fined musical situation to another, pol-ished and sophisticated instrumentation, accomplished lyricism, and a delicate, subtle rhythmic flow – these are some of the defining features of the richly tex-tured musical universe inhabited by the Swiss-Japanese composer Ezko Kikoutchi. From the opening notes of this recording, it is apparent that Kikoutchi belongs to a generation of artists whose work manages to seamlessly and har-moniously fuse many different sources of contemporary music from the latter half of the 20th century. What emerges is a soundscape that is as beautiful as it is unique.
