Having been invited to perform at the 1967 Vienna Festival, the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra opened its concert with a high-octane performance of Dvo ák’s patriotic overture The Hussites. In Brahms’ Violin Concerto, the elegant soloist Henryk Szeryng entered into a musical dialogue with conductor Rafael Kubelík that was both subtly sensitive and quick-witted.
