There are various settings of the fair text by Johann Sebastian Bach. Of course, the fair is most famous for minor, the so-called "Catholic". The Lutheran worship practice would not have been used for them. This is different with the shorter Kyrie-Gloria fairs, the on high holidays in Leipzig. Thomas and St. Nikolai was sung in Latin. For, unlike other reformers, Luther violated a far less harsh break into the pre-Reformation liturgy.
The great charm of the little Gloria fairs of Johann Sebastian Bach is probably that you can experience the mature and experienced musician in dealing with the elegant compositional style of his time – the 1730s. The fact that at the same time neither the familiar polyphony nor the deep rooting in the Lutheran tradition are neglected, yes, that even choral contents find their way into the measuring sets, in which is the uniqueness of Bach's combinatorial genius. In short: catchy, overall cheerful music, but with the usual quality standards, also and especially where formerly composers were "recycled" – because Bach must have estimated exactly these pieces immensely.
