How many treasures still remain to be discovered from the epoch of the fin de siecle and the interwar period? Even with composers whom one thinks one knows, one can still embark on an astonishing journey of discovery: for example, with the Romanian national composer George Enescu and with Gabriel Fauré, whose works for piano trio have now been tackled by the young Enescu Trio, winners of international prizes, in a first production for their GENUIN debut CD. The ability of the three musicians to blend together in sound borders on the unreal; they become a large, single instrument, painting dreamlike and transcendent colours as contained in this music of an apparently timeless period.
