Josef Rheinberger's chamber music is characterized by classical formal rigour and romantic expression. His works display a balanced distribution of voices and melodic finesse. Rheinberger combined contrapuntal skill with lyrical interpretation. Although his chamber music received little attention for a long time, it is increasingly being performed and appreciated again today.
