Chant from the Antiphonary of Anna Hachenberch

The chants on this CD are from the Antiphonary of Anna Hachenberch, a manuscript in the possession of the recently reopened Schütgen Museum in Cologne. The life of Anna Hachenberch lies in obscurity. She probably belonged to the monastery of Augustinian sisters who were domiciled in St. Cecilia’s since 1475.



The manuscript partly contains original texts for the officium and chants that are not to be found in any other manuscript from anywhere else in the world. EnsembleCandens Lilium, under the direction of Norbert Rodenkirchen, explores several of these fascinating unique specimens on the present CD and brings them to life again for the first time since the late Middle Ages, in the church of St. Cecilia, Cologne.
