Dejan Lazić has been making recordings since 1990, but this is his first live album. Recorded at the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad in August 2022. Dejan says of the live recording ‘certain artistic freedoms which come from the fact that this creative process is unrepeatable are equally unparalleled, one literally senses the immediate response from the audience so one acts and reacts upon that. Because if the intimacy and sheer uniqueness of a piano recital as such, no matter how large the venue is, there also comes into play a different sort of spontaneity, risk taking, and creativity’. Viennese Rhapsody features composers who all had very close links with the city, though only Schubert was born there. The span from the 18th to the 20th century embraces works that have both rhapsodic and fantasy-like elements. Dejan features not only as pianist on this album, but as arranger and composer too.
