Nowadays, the name Duport might only sound familiar to Mozart and Beethoven connoisseurs, as the older of the two cellist brothers was employed at the Prussian court. Jean Louis Duport, the younger of the two, is the author of one of the first treatises on cello technique, and the 21 etudes of this recording are the practical part of that essay. This re-release is a part of Martin Rummel’s worldwide acclaimed series of etude re-cordings for his instrument, and he is being accompanied by his former student Sebastian Hartung.
