Otto M. Zykan (1935–2006) was one of the most important Austrian composers of the second half of the 20th century. With the "Unterösterreichisches Liederbuch" this album presents a highlight of his work, which at the same time sets out the task of posterity: Zykan, without which Zykan himself is present, becomes an interpretive challenge. Adrian Eröd and Albert Sassmann approach Zykan's work together with Johanna Falkinger and Johanna Zachhuber - the result is an entertaining panopticon on the Austrian soul. The trio "Verborgene Erinnerungen" (Hidden Memories), which features percussionist Kurt Prihoda and Zykan himself as well as cellist Heinrich Schiff, who died in 2016, is another treasure from the ORF archive, released here for the first time.
