Anna Reichert devotes herself here to the piano music of the almost forgotten Swiss composer Johann Carl Eschmann (1826-1882). The often pictorial works can be regarded as rather restrained and lyrical in comparison with the great Romantics, but this gives them a charming poetic character. Eschmann can be seen as a representative of a conservative Romanticism that focuses more on expression and melody than on pianistic or compositional spectacle. His work allows us to better grasp the diversity within Romantic music.
