A Rose Magnificat
Paul McCreesh leads the Gabrieli Consort in a collection of works that explores the diverse and extensive body of works dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary over the centuries. Music by Tallis, MacMillan, Howells and Leighton frames the world premiere of a new work by the young British composer, Matthew Martin: a setting of the Magnificat, interpolated with verses from the atmospheric medieval poem ‘There is no rose’.
Gabrieli are world-renowned interpreters of great vocal and instrumental repertoire from the Renaissance to the present day. Formed as an early music ensemble by Paul McCreesh in 1982, Gabrieli has both outgrown and remained true to its original identity through its live performances and award-winning recordings for their Winged Lion label.

Paul McCreesh założył Gabrieli Consort w 1982 roku i od początku do końca pozostaje wierny idei prezentowania wielkiego repertuaru wokalnego właściwie nieograniczonego czasowo. Choć początkowo był to zespół muzyki dawnej. Ta płyta idealnie wpasowała się w różnorodność epok - od renesansu po dzień dzisiejszy. To utwory maryjne jedenastu kompozytorów, począwszy od Roberta Wylkynsona (ok. 1450-1515), poprzez Thomasa Talli-sa (1505-1585) czy Herberta Howellsa (1892-1983), a skończywszy na premierowym wykonaniu utworu tytułowego A Rose Magnificat, inspirowanego średniowiecznym wierszem, młodego brytyjskiego kompozytora Matthew Martina (ur. 1976). Klimat płyty jest wyjątkowy, interpretacja pełna ekspresji, wykonanie nienaganne w swym profesjonalizmie. Tego trzeba posłuchać!
