Noskowski & Rytel: Piano Works is an album that poetically and thoughtfully revives forgotten links in Polish piano music from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. With interpretive sensitivity and historical intuition, Monika Quinn brings to life piano miniatures by Zygmunt Noskowski and Piotr Rytel composers closely tied to the Warsaw music scene, whose master–student relationship shaped the course of Polish music education and compositional tradition.
The album features two of Noskowski’s lyrical and colorful cycles: Petits rayons, Op. 39, and Fleurs de printemps, Op. 48 works that highlight the composer of The Steppe as a refined colorist and master of poetic nuance. These are contrasted with Rytel’s later works: six Études, Op. 21, and Prelude and Toccata, Op. 29 pieces neoromantic in character and impressionistic in harmony, filled with narrative expression and structural clarity.
More than just a documentation of neglected repertoire, this album reveals musical traces of shared ideals across two generations of composers. Recorded with passion and conviction by Monika Quinn, it is a subtle homage to Poland’s rich piano heritage.
The recordings were made on 28–29 March and on 30 September 2024 in Warsaw, in the Concert Hall of the Chopin University of Music.
