Although it is not approved, it may be one of the most often reproduced quotes within music historiography: Johann Sebastian Bach is reported to have named his student Johann Ludwig Krebs (crayfish) the only crayfish within his brook (Bach), to outline his outstanding position among his followers.

Krebs, oscillating in his compositions between Bach epigonism and innovative influences, was in his time regarded as outstanding organ virtuoso. Although his compositional work for the instrument is not as popular as this of his famous teacher, it is not worse than that at all. Thus, it appears as more than coherent, that querstand, the classical music label of Kamprad Publishing Group, presents this overview on the complete organ work of Johann Ludwig Krebs. The Krebs specialist Felix Friedrich, as Altenburg Castle Organist one of Krebs’ successors and author of the Krebs’ work catalogue, which is also available from Kamprad Publishing, presents the composer’s work for organ played at selected instruments of the region of Central Germany.

In the works for organ and a second instrument resp. for organ and voice, Friedrich plays with different musical partners, all of them being approved specialists in Ancient Music

The recording of Johann Ludwig Krebs’ complete work for organ in eleven volumes and on twelve CDs, which had been started at the end of the last century could recently be completed and is now available in a representative slipcase.
