Diapason 5
Although Rudolf Mauersberger, who over more than four decades directed the Kreuzchor in Dresden, saw himself first of all as a church musician, not that much as a composer, he was composing all his work life time within the several contexts. Following the particular demands of each post, he wrote motets, choral arrangements, introits and other liturgical music besides arrangements of chants and folk songs, at least for the Kreuzchor concert-length works as well. Apart from some exceptions the composer's work received only after his death wider attention within the musical world. It was the adaption of the compositional heritage in the Saxon State Library Dresden as well as the generation of the catalogue of his works, which led to discoveries such as the presented CD.

Enrico Langer, having himself his personal and musical roots in the region of Erzgebirge around Annaberg-Buchholz and who since his childhood has studied the work of the famous Kreuzkantor, presents on this CD the first recording of Mauersberger's complete work for organ - at an instrument, which the composer himself knew very well, the Walcker organ at St. Annen in Annaberg-Buchholz. The three works for organ, created within his years in Leipzig are accomplished by two choral arrangements for wind ensemble.
