This album is named after November Night, a poem by Adelaide Crapsey. Her suggestive-poetic descriptions of the sounds of nature inspired Nina Šenk’s composition of the same name. The award-winning Slovenian composer is fascinated by sound textures, by processes unfolding in the rhythms of nature, by forms that produce clarity while leaving room for spontaneous impulses. And she possesses the patience and the persistence to transform her intuitions into music both mysterious and distinctive. The world of sound created by Nina Šenk is as rich as her sources of inspiration are varied. The instrumental pieces presented on this album, premiered between 2019 and 2024, reflect momentous events in the composer’s life, transform the five elements into sound, were conceived from encounters with literature or the images of a silent movie. This recording also bears witness of the popularity of the composer’s ouvre in the world of contemporary music: renowned ensembles from four cities in three different countries have assembled to interpret Nina Šenk’s works on this album.
