If the key of D major is the key of joy, the key of C Minor that of sorrow.. so must the key of B minor be the key of comfort and solace. This album combines Bach at his best: inspired and spiritual. All works are played on historical instruments. Special notice must be made of two very special instruments, since they are originals: the original Denner flute from Nurnberg & the Zell harpsichord from the Museum fuer Kunst und Gewerbe Hamburg. Instruments from Bach’s era, that have been united for the first time.
Ensemble Schönbrunn has built an admirable reputation with over 25 years of concerts and CD recordings of chamber music selected by its artistic leader and founding member Marten Root who re-discovered unknown repertoire, ranging from Frescobaldi to Debussy. The ensemble distinguishes itself by presenting well -known masterpieces from the chamber music repertoire in an innovative way.
The size and the combination of instruments of the ensemble varies, depending on the repertoire, from trio to nonet. For the concerts and recording of Mozart’s Concertos for flute the ensemble performs as a chamber orchestra without conductor as was often the case in the 18th century. The members of the ensemble are all members of well known orchestra’s as: Orchestra of the 18th Century, Orchestra of the age of Enlightenment, Freiburger Baroque, Anima Eterna and many others.
With this album the Ensemble celebrates their 25th anniversary. It will be released including a bonus CD with tracks from all previous releases of the Ensemble.
