Cornelis Schuyt was the organist and church composer of the Pieterskerk in Leyden, the Netherlands. He travelled to Italy and was very much influenced by the music of the Italian Renaissance madrigal composers. His madrigals are settings of poetry from such famous Italian poets as Petrarca and Tasso. Camerata performs these madrigals in lush settings with 6 singers, 6 gambas and 6 recorders. One of the books are settings to Dutch poetry, these are reconstructions since 2 of the original 6 voices were lost.
