The programme of the album contains the following songs: Les larmes (‘Tears’) to words by Antoni Edward Odyniec, one of Moniuszko’s first songs, written in Berlin, Les plaintes de la jeune fille (‘A Girl’s Sorrow’) to words by Ludwik Sztyrmer, taken from the first Home Songbook, and two from the Sixth Home Songbook, which features ballads and poems by Adam Mickiewicz, Le chant de la tour (‘Song from the tower’) to words from Konrad Wallenrod and Le Niémen (‘The Neman’). There are interesting dedications for these last two works: Moniuszko presented the first ‘To Miss Paulina Rivoli, an artist of the Polish opera’, and the other to Wincenta Zawadzka, née Żółkowska, wife of his Vilnius publisher. The last Moniuszko’s song on this CD is the fourth part of the cycle Lirnik wioskowy (‘The village lyrist’), to verse by W?adysław Syrokomla, dedicated to the composer’s father, Czesław.
