In the field of early music, the Flemish ensemble Il Gardellino doesn’t need much introduction anymore. After having recorded many CD’s with mainly instrumental repertoire during the last 10 years they proudly present the first volume of a Cantata series under the direction of Marcel Ponseele. Ponseele, who has been recording most of Bach cantatas with Ton Koopman, Philippe Herreweghe and John Eliot Gardiner found it the moment to present his own vision on Bach’s music. He has outlined mini series of 5 CD’s with cantatas of Johan Sebastian Bach around the theme of the mystic lamb with his own group whereby each CD has a theological theme going from the longing for Jesus to the theme of death. On each volume the music of Bach will be confronted with a Cantata on the same text by another contempory composer. The young Belgian soprano Caroline Weynants is really impressive in Liebster Jesu, mein Verlangen. She will be also performing in the second volume which is due to be released in November 2010.
