Fanfare Recommendation

1. Trio in three movements (1984/85)
2. Trio in one movement (2001)
3. Trio in two movements (2006/07)
These works captivate the attention of listeners and performers alike, by virtue of their straightforward depiction of the human soul’s lowest depths and loftiest flights”, our three instrumentalists enthusiastically remark. This is imaginative music in its most primeval form, and Trio Image is devoted to this type of rendition by its very choice of name. Gergana Gergova (violin), Thomas Kaufmann (cello) and Pavlin Nechev (piano) form a line-up in which the trio has been playing since 2008. All three members enjoy searching together for new sound images, and they all share the desire to confront their audiences with musical creativity in its widest possible variety. Berlin chamber music professor Eberhard Feltz has remained their tutor for many years, and he describes the members of Trio Image as “three profoundly musical talents. Each one of them exerts a unique effect on the audience, intellectually and sensually, and they all combine true mastery of their instrument with a large dose of creative energy.” With their many years of concert stage experience, these three virtuosos have now brought those same qualities into the recording studio for their striking début CD.

"Argentinean-German composer Mauricio Kagel (1931-2008) attained international renown with his ‘instrumental theatre’ approach ever since the 1960’s, a period when the concept of musical material was being expanded to include all kinds of instrumental and vocal performance techniques. Kagel enlarged his compositional palette to include all non-sounding events that form an essential part of the production, distribution and reception of music. His goal was to make instrumental and theatrical performance become one. Instead of assuming the roles of characters – i.e. portraying someone else, as in drama and opera – musicians were to take part in a theatrical enactment of their own instrumental and vocal parts, limiting themselves to their essential role as musicians: entering and exiting the stage, communicating with one another via gestures and eye contact, and consciously emphasizing all the movements and efforts involved in producing the required sounds”….
