"Lajos Lencsés is one of the greatest oboists of our time" – thus wrote the French Diapason
magazine in 1990, when his recording won the prestigious "Diapason d’Or" Award. Lencsés was
born in Dorog (Hungary) in 1943 and studied at the Budapest Academy of Music, and then at the
Paris Conservatory. His international career started with victory in the Geneva International
Competition in 1968. He is a member of the SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra Stuttgart, and also a
soloist of world renown. His rich repertoire ranges from the Baroque age to contemporary music,
and he has recorded dozens of discs.
Various oboe concerts by French composer Leclair, the German composter Stölzel, Bohemian
Stamitz, and Russian Handoshkon, performed by a Hungarian oboist, under the direction of an
Armenian conductor and supported by a German orchestra … if that does not deserve to be
labelled “cosmopolitan”! Besides the exotic appeal this constellation alone emanates, these rare
concerts will also teach us about many aspects regarding the musical development from Baroque
to the classical period.
