Fritz Wunderlich was the ideal tenor; his voice had an unmistakable sheen, and a powerful radiance which breathed life into each and every performance. His deep understanding of the texts he was singing gave his interpretations a sense-of-presence rarely found in other singers. All of these factors are fully present in the current recording of “Die schöne Müllerin”, dating from March 5th 1964, in Stuttgart. It is one the most beautiful “Müllerin “cycles ever recorded and one to be treasured by all fans of the great Fritz Wunderlich.
