The Pieces de clavecin en concerts appeared in print in August 1741, soon after they were composed. They were the work of a mature 58 year-old composer who was at the peak of his fame: Jean Philippe Rameau.
For il Gardellino it was very important to leave the main role in the recordings to the harpsichord. So the pieces are very close to Rameau’s operatic writing but the musicians took also the freedom of using the flute and the violin together in an attempt to create more colours and, in certain places, a more orchestral effect.
