The CD combines two ornate contrapuntal late works by Bach, which he used 1747/48 each as an annual fee for Lorenz Christoph Mizler’s Corresponding Society of the Musical Sciecences. Is the Musicalische Opfer reasonably popular through its legislative history and accordingly often recorded, the canonical changes to BWV 769 should rather be a term to organ friends. For this recording, the ensemble Il Gardellino has created a chamber music version, which complements the Musicalische Opfer perfectly. The ensemble is following the way of Igor Stravinsky, who edited the canon changes for mixed choir and large orchestra in 1956.
