The ‘idea’ of the mandolin is mainly associated today with Italian folk music (primarily from Naples) and with the small pear-shaped instrument, its bent top and moveable bridge, and its tuning in fifths, identical to that of the violin. Duilio Galfetti and Luca Pianca present several pieces e.g. from Arrigoni, Piccone and Sammartini, composers, who use the instrument to the limits of its possibilities. The writing is in some cases extremely virtuosic and the musical forms correspond to those of the traditional Baroque aesthetic.

Recorded in October 2011, at Auditorio Stelio Molo, Radiotelevisione Svizzera (RSI), Lugano (CH)
